Common carpet cleaning tips and problems, with the real chances of getting a stain out.

Can you remove specific stains?

At ProCare we are able to remove any spot or stain that is not permanent. Sometimes there are situations where permanent stains are present. The percentages below are the chance we have of removing the spot or stain, not the percentage of the stain that will be removed.

  • Soft drinks95%
  • Blood90%
  • Rust90%
  • Lipstick90%
  • Ketchup90%
  • Paint90%
  • Tea and coffee75%
  • Yellowing50%
  • Filtration soiling50%
  • Urine50%
  • Vomit50%
  • Mustard50%
  • Red dye5%
  • Furniture stain5%

Red dye is almost impossible to remove unless conditions are exactly right. In many cases the only way is a heat transfer process, which takes extra time, so we do charge extra for it.

What can Stain Guard protection do for my carpets?

Stain Guard protection helps you in two ways. When this protective coating is applied to the carpet fibres, it puts a protective barrier around each fibre. This barrier resists moisture, so when you do have a spill it gives you a window of time to get it cleaned up.

It also helps reduce the wear and abrasion caused by sand in the carpet. This protects the carpet from excessive matting, and in turn will cause your carpet to perform better.

Why should I clean my carpet?

Volatile organic compounds, biocontaminants and combustion products, as well as dust mites, chemicals, pollutants, pesticides, allergens, bacteria and a host of other unhealthy contaminants will make their way into your carpet throughout its life.

Quite simply, your carpet acts like a sink. It collects and filters all of these contaminants, which in turn cleans the air you breathe. However, like any other filter, your carpet needs to be cleaned on a regular basis or it will lose its filtering ability. If these contaminants are in your home, they could be contributing to your family's health and allergy problems.

How often should a carpet be cleaned?

The frequency of cleaning varies from home to home depending upon the number of occupants and level of usage. At a minimum, you should clean once a year.

Some home owners fear that once the carpet is cleaned it will re-soil quicker. That is the result of improper cleaning by other companies that buy the cheapest solutions and do not offer a separate rinse step to remove detergent residues. ProCare uses a more thorough method that includes a rinse step after the pre-spray process, which removes deep down soil and leaves no detergent to accelerate re-soiling.

Foot traffic grinds the soil against the carpet fibres and causes a sandpaper effect, which makes the fibres dull and worn looking.

Can you repair indentations caused by heavy furniture?

Unfortunately we can provide no guarantees. As well as the carpet being crushed, the carpet backing will also have been indented. Moisture, heat and grooming may help if using our equipment, but this process will take time to get the carpet looking back to normal.

What about reoccurring spots?

If a spot returned a day or so after cleaning, it may have been oily or sticky and was not completely removed, or “wicked back” due to the nature of the spot. Possibly the spot could also be a permanent stain.

Do you move furniture?

We always try our best to move the majority of furniture in the main living area. We always request that our customers remove the little pieces such as shoes, toys and ornaments to enable us to carry out the most thorough clean possible. For liability reasons, we do not move china hutches, entertainment systems or pianos.

How soon can I walk on the carpet?

Carpets are usually touch dry within 30 minutes to 2 hours. Try to keep pets, children and heavy traffic off the carpet during the drying process. Wait 24 hours before removing styrofoam blocks or protective tabs that we have placed under the furniture.

Enjoy clean and healthy carpets all year round, year after year.
